Richard Lawson’s review of Brave

(via shiphassailed)
YEAH WE NEED MORE MEN MOVIES LIKE MAYBE A BUDDY COMEDY ABOUT A COWBOY AND AN ASTRONAUT OR MAYBE A MOVIE ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A FATHER FISH AND HIS SON OR ANOTHER BUDDY COMEDY ABOUT TWO MONSTERS OR ANOTHER MOVIE ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP OF A FATHER FIGURE AND A YOUNG BOY
YOU’RE RIGHT, RICHARD, PIXAR DOESN’T REPRESENT NEARLY ENOUGH MALE RELATIONSHIPS

Seriously. And I know Brave wasn’t holding to 100% authenticity history-wise, but hello? Welcome to the world of women - property of dad until you became the property of your husband. Merida rebelled the only way she knew how in the framework she had - asking why she didn’t run off and see the world oh la-de-da becomes an extremely complicated scenario. (And if there’d been a war or something going on, then yeah, we maybe could have seen her become a warrior queen or something, but that wasn’t the point of the story.
