Apparently I seem to have a Fenris/DA/smexy elf fetish going on atm. I regret nothing. >_<

  1. Team Valkyrie FTW: Bioware's Jennifer Hepler and Gendered Insults

    teamvalkyrieftw:

EDIT: Her name is Jennifer not Jessica and this is why I write posts in the evening and review them thirty million times before I publish.

So Jennifer Hepler is a writer at BioWare and said some things about games which I disagree with but we’re not going to go there. She suggested a “skip…

    This.

I’ve never seen a more vile display than what went on in the tweet stream this weekend. There are better ways and better channels for expressing your viewpoints, but disappointed with her writing or thoughts on gaming or whatever, how can anyone possibly take the alternate viewpoint seriously when it becomes nothing more than the basest form of name-calling? (And attacking others for expressing their own opinions? Calling us all cunts and sluts? Telling her she should die? That she’s cancer? Really? Photoshopped images of her? Fake accounts with her name? Just…unreal.)

And incidentally, the constant tweets of “Well prove to me she’s a *good* writer” mean nothing. Writing is subjective - what I like, you might not like and so on. I can’t prove to you she’s a good writer. I can’t prove to you she’s a bad one. I can tell you what I like or don’t like about it, but that’s it. My opinion.

The thing is, it’s not like she wrote all these games herself. It’s one thing if you write a book - that all pretty much rests on the author’s shoulders, but a game like Dragon Age has many other writers and editors and programmers. Blaming a single person for what you see as a failure is ridiculous. (And if you did, you’d be better off pointing your finger at someone in a managerial position who’s supposed to oversee the whole thing.)

Sadly, even though Jennifer has deleted her Twitter account, the tweets continue. (Though I’ve stopped looking - it’s a completely toxic environment and not worth the mental energy.)
